Minister of State for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that opening a tax file for all those above the age of 18 does not mean that they will be charged tax.

The Minister of State points out that future welfare payments are to be given under this tax file number.

“There was a proposal in the 2023 budget document that a tax file will be opened for all citizens over 18 years of age in our country. This does not mean that the government is going to collect tax money from all of these people. The purpose of registering everyone is to bring some regulation to the state income. For some people, through that file That’s what we decide, he registers and the assistance given by the government is given to him according to the information in that file. It is with the gazette issued in many countries of the world. This gazette means that especially from the 1st of June, taxes can be paid in this country. Other prominent classes have been invited to please open a tax file. Especially there are prominent groups like doctors, lawyers, engineers. This gazette has been issued to 14 such groups.”
